Key Role Description


The Instrument Reliability Engineer is a member of the Monroe Energy Reliability Engineering Team responsible for the Life Cycle Management of the Refinery’s instrumentation. This role provides engineering support for equipment troubleshooting, repairs, selection, and operational optimization as required to maximize their availability and reliability.

Technical Knowledge - demonstrates the specific skills necessary for the assignments, understands the background and points of leverage to be effective in the role.

  • Provide Engineering support and expertise for Instrument related issues in the Maintenance Department.
  • Troubleshoot instrument related issues and implement corrective actions to minimize unit downtime and optimize unit reliability.
  • Provide technical and operational direction on instrument installations and control systems.
  • Troubleshoot unplanned shutdowns of operating units to minimize loss profit opportunities and prevent reoccurrence.
  • Configure vendor specific instrumentation to achieve proper operation.
  • Responsible for review and interpretation of industry stanards and their application to instrumentation installations including API, NFPA, ISA, etc.
  • Provide engineering, leadership, and solutions to refinery instrument technicians.
  • Evaluate Safety Instrumented Systems for compliance with ISA 84.
  • Specifies and procures field measurement instrumentation including sizing of control valves.
  • Function as Project Engineer for Instrument Maintenance projects.
  • Writes purchase and construction specifications and writes and performs Factory Acceptance Tests.
  • Ensures application of instrumentation safety standards, mechanical integrity, design, and maintenance.
  • Uses documentation systems and processes which maintain accurate instrumentation equipment and control system information and drawings.
  • Serves as a technical resource to properly identify new and existing equipment specifications and proper operating parameters/ranges for instrumentation equipment.

Experience and Skills

Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Preferred 5 or more years Reliability Engineering and Maintenance experience in Instrumentation/Technical Functions in high-risk industry such as refining, petrochemical, or chemical processing.
  • BS degree in Engineering.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
