Job Description:

Key Role Description

* Champions and leads the Trainer Safety Alliance (TSA) working with the Contractors’ Safety Managers and their leadership, as well as Monroe Leadership, establishing systems and culture to achieve ZERO incidents & injuries.
* Builds an engaging partnership with Contractor Safety resources to challenge them to continuous improve safe behaviors, training, and field execution to meet Monroe’s business needs.
* Leads audits working with Monroe’s Contractor Administrators (CA) to identify key improvement opportunities to drive execution of safe work.
* Participates in teams and may lead or facilitate committees or sub-teams, including the Trainer Safety Alliance.
* Serves as Safety Department liaison with Turnaround Planning Department to ensure safety is planned into significant maintenance events.
* Motivates employees and contractors establishing personal pride and ownership in a world-class refining safety culture.

Essential Responsibilities

* Leads major H&S program elements to include the Contractor Safety Management System.
* Develops and facilitates training, safety meeting topics, and safety notices for employees and contractors on issues related to safety & health compliance.
* Monitors safety performance by completing daily audits, hazard identification and injury prevention.
* Analyzes leading metrics to proactively identify opportunities to prevent incidents.
* Leads or participants in Root Cause Investigations to identify corrective actions and drive improvements.
* Participates in Pre-job Planning and Safety Reviews for high-risk work activities and evaluates safe work practices and PPE requirements.
* Acts as a liaison between Monroe and Contractors to ensure safety issues and concerns are addressed and mitigated.
* Develops and may present weekly shop safety tool box meetings, and provide instruction for employee and contractor safety training.
* Participates in the Emergency Response Team.

Experience and Skills

Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health or related science/engineering field.
* Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), and/or Master’s degree in HSE, or a demonstrated ability to obtain certification is a required.
* 5 to 15 years’ H&S experience in high-risk industry such as refining, petrochemical, or chemical processing.
* Demonstrated knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and its implementation.
* Competence in the development and implementation of Contractor Safety Programs.
* Excellent organizational skills and be able to work well under pressure and to deadlines.
* Excellent communications abilities, both verbal and written, to engage employees and contractors at all levels in assessing and understanding the principles of safe behaviors, conditions and preparedness.
* Ability to promote H&S best practices to achieve compliance within all areas of the business.
* Works directly with Monroe & Contractor management & staff to provide coaching, mentoring and resolution of safety related issues and concerns.
* Must be competent in Microsoft Office Suite Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
